As an avid reader of Matthew Norman’s media diary in The Independent, I noted that he took a shot at Media Guardian columnist Peter Wilby, the other day.

He said that, despite being a “professor of journalism”, Wilby doesn’t know who an X-Factor contestant on the front of the tabloids is, or even if they are male or female. He ends the item: “If you don’t know Rhydian’s gender, man, for God’s sake Google him. Or her.”

Now here’s the twist: if you try to Google “professor peter wilby” you get zero results – he isn’t a professor!

Could my friend Matthew possibly be confusing Wilby with Roy Greenslade? Me thinks so.
