Kicking a man when he’s down (and out)

One man’s tragedy is another’s commercial opportunity – as The Sun Online illustrated this week with its treatment of the story of newsreader-turned-tramp Ed Mitchell.

The Sun website’s account of the former ITN man’s fall from grace seamlessly segues into a plug for one of the paper’s commercial tie-ins. It even uses the same font and tells readers:

“Don’t go the same way as Ed.

“If you need a loan or are considering consolidating your debt, make sure you use Sun Money’s comparison service to get the best value deal. Here are a few of the current, most popular deals.”
