Without a hint of irony, the Sunday Express managed to dream up the following headline on the disappearance of Madeleine McCann: “ITV chases ratings with Madeleine documentary”.

Let’s hope at least the sub-editor had his tongue firmly in their cheek.

I mean it’s not as if the Sunday Express or its sister titles would ever repeatedly splash on the McCanns’ story in a relentless attempt to drive up circulation would they?
