Hell hath no fury like a blogger uncredited

Bloggers are up in arms with Fleet Street’s diarists for pinching their stories without crediting them.

Two bloggers, Guido Fawkes and Tory internet nerd Iain Dale, vent their anger in the latest edition of the magazine produced by City University’s journalism students.

Dale points the finger at The Sun’s Katherine Bergen, who writes the Whip diary column, and the Mail’s Peter McKay, author of the waspish Ephraim Hardcastle column.

Bergen puts the problem down to the fact that “a lot of us have ideas at the same time”.

But McKay has a more interesting explanation, especially when it comes to the web-based celebrity site Popbitch.

“We would regularly take stuff without crediting,” says McKay in XCity magazine. He puts the practice down to the fact that “often it’s quite distasteful stuff”. Presumably the stories are not too distasteful to put in the column – just the source?
