US poll shows majority still trust media

A CBS News/New York Times poll has found a majority of Americans have at least a fair amount of trust and confidence in the news media, although relatively few express a great deal of confidence in the institution.

But in a comment piece linked to a programme on the State of the Media, CBS News correspondent Anthony Mason cites the Wisconsin State Journal’s decision to invite readers in a daily Internet poll, to pick one story to put on the front page as further proof that the “the era of “trust me” journalism has passed. The era of “show me” journalism has begun.”
