MPs (and when did you ever see one up in time to sign what the rest of us would regard as an Early Day Motion?) have an interesting definition of 'quality journalism': friendly, pusillanimous and endless reporting of their kow-towing parliamentary utterances. They deserve one another. Proprietors, regional and national, don’t mind the quality of journalism, they only feel the width.
