US broadcaster ABC News ran an interview with Craig Newmark yesterday.
All the usual material about his web site’s threat to newspapers’ classified advertising were trotted out, along with some more speculation about his interests in the cost center of the publishing business journalism. Much has been made of a citizen journalism project in which Newmark is an investor. But there are also some rumours in the ABC piece:
Newmark said he would like to help the newspaper industry and wants to launch a new Web site that at least links to what he believes is the best journalism articles and sites around. And he believes that perhaps someday he may branch out and hire his own reporters for the site.
Reporters writing directly for Craigslist? That idea’s news to me.
