These days, the domain names commentisfree.com and commentisfree.co.uk forward to Guardian Unlimited, in preparation for the launch of the paper’s new comment blog Comment Is Free.

Speaking at the Online Publishers Association conference last week, Guardian Unlimited editor-in-chief Emily Bell said the paper has already signed up 200 writers for the site. According to Guardian consultant and new media columnist Jeff Jarvis, who was given a preview of the site this week, the list of contributors includes one very interesting name: US socialite and columnist Arianna Huffington, whose Huffington Post site has been cited as an inspiration for the Guardian project.

In her Saturday column, Bell said the paper will be taking an unusal appoach to publicising the launch:

As part of that launch we will only be spending money on advertising on other blogs, rather than traditional media. The viral power of the blogosphere, when harnessed correctly, can deliver far better results than much more expensive advertising on radio, television, or even print.

Wait, did I just contribute to that effort?
