The man was a nightmare and had to go. Appointing La Sandal was not smart - she lacked any real news experience, having come up the fluffy cuddly side of the paper (she was dep Ed on the DTel). Curious that the Telegraph group will have two City hacks as editor on one paper and Heir Apparent. How long can the Daily Telegraph go on without a proper editor? Bryant is a safe pair of hands but he lacks what it takes to be a real editor. THe arch-shit Will Lewis, lately of the Sunday Times is sitting in the wings just waiting for his moment. He is undoubtably clever enough, probabaly experienced enough, and without question as bit an egotistical shit, as you need to be editor of the paper. THat being said his re-vamped business section is laughably bad. Sacking Lawson was NOT a mistake at all. The man was a nightmare and had to go. A fine business journo ... but she has NO experience editing a national newspaper and no credentials in the fields required for this job. Sacking Lawson was a bad mistake, appointing Sands a worse one. I'll give Wheatcroft 12 months before she, too, is shown the door. Sands had to go. Her brief reign at the SunTel was a disaster.
