Welcome to the live-blogging of the British Press Awards.
Judges’ chairman Charles Wilson has just opened the ceremony, saying that we have had to settle for Jon Snow as the presenter tonight after Bob Geldorf said that he had “other effing things to do”.
Your blogger has been relegated to the far corner of the Dorchester hotel’s ballroom with little more than a bottle of red wine (La Croix Rouge, Vin de Pays de L’Aude 2004) while the assembled throng of black tie clad hacks tucks into the Dorchester mezze selection.
Later they will be moveing on to a roast rack of lamb with samosa of slow-cooked Moroccan-spiced lamb served with pistachio and raisin cous-cous and seasonal fresh vegetables.
