Are sceptical consumers of mainstream media reports meant to believe in the "reliability" of:

A report in the British press
quoting a US TV network report
quoting an anonymous US intelligence or law enforcemnet official
quoting a British Government liason officer
quoting a British intelligence or agency or Police force
quoting the terrorist case invesitgation team
quoting specialist forensic investigators

?

Why should there not be misinformation or selective misquoting and misintepretation at each stage of this series of Chinese Whispers ?

Or are the "US sources" or "Pakistani sources" really misdirection for "UK sources" in the first place ?

If we are sceptical, is it any wonder that sections of the Islamic communities totally dismiss any possible guilt of any of the suspects, and believe in various conspiracy theories ?

Why does the British press and media not pressure the Home Office to deny or quash the speculation about "liquid explosives", instead of hyping things up and creating a "Climate of Fear" ?
