The Manchester Evening News has just published a story about one of the 10 finalists for our Press Cadets competition.

Ten recent journalism graduates are competiting in a four-week Apprentice-style competition for two year-long jobs on our newsdesk. Each week the ten finalists will complete an a assignment in a different news organisation’s newsroom, with two being voted off based on their performance in the task they are set by that publication’s editor.

One of the finalists, as the MEN reports, is Patrick Smith, a student at Leeds Trinity & All Saints Centre for Journalism. Full marks for shameless self-promotion, Patrick.

Details of the other finalists and their first task will appear in week’s Press Gazette, which is out Thursday.

Guilty as charged, I’m afraid. I was also in the Yorkshire Evening Post last week. I’ve only got through to the last six but I thought I may as well make the most of it!
