Kidnapped correspondent shown wearing bomb vest

The kidnapped BBC Gaza correspondent Alan Johnston is shown wearing what appears to be a vest of explosives in a new video released by his kidnappers.

In the video, Johnston says the kidnappers have said they would detonate the belt if any attempt is made to free him by force.

Negotiations between the kidnappers and Hamas, which now controls Gaza, are carrying on. The Independent quotes Hamas negotiator Mahmoud Zahar saying that the kidnappers are afraid they will be harmed if they release Johnston.
