Top US newspaper site traffic dips - or does it?

Editor & Publisher has just published Nielsen/Netratings’ August traffic data for US newspaper web sites.

When compared to July’s Netratings figures for US newspaper sites, the data published today shows that among the top five sites, The New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal all saw their traffic dip in August. Only the Los Angeles Times was up slightly over July.

A study based on ComScore data and released earlier this week suggested that US news sites’ traqffic is also slipping year-on-year, but the Netratings data shows year-on-year increases for some of these sites.

I’m somewhat relieved to see that metrics confusion isn’t confined to this side of the Atlantic.
