Ifra plans to launch a niche vertical search engine for topics of interest to the newspaper industry, chief executive Reiner Mittelbach announced this morning at the World Digital Publsihing Conference in Dublin.
The vertical search engine, which is scheduled to launch in January, will deliver news and information of interest to newspaper publishing industry, and will exclude results from other fields that use similar jargon, such as “convergence”.
Update: Ifra’s project manager for the tool, Amrei Wiederin, says the tool will soft-launch later this year, ahead of a more formal launch in February. The service will consist of a database of hand-selected sources of information of interest to people in the newspaper industry, plus proprietary material not available on the public internet, such as Ifra’s reports.
Ifra members will be able to open proprietary reports on the service, which has been in development for around two years.
Ifra plans to offer to media companies for use on their intranets.
