But what of Shorthand Dave? What of Shorthand? At my university dictaphones are banned for some reason;(a court thingy-ma-jig I believe). So we’ve all had to learn how to write one hundred words a minute shorthand. It’s boring and monotomous but also incredibly useful.

As the editor of an online mag I find that a digital camera is essential. I use the compact Ricoh GX100, which can produce 12 megapixel RAW images. But most of the time I just use it for concept-style pics.
As a journlaist I would say the most important thing you can bring with you is a sense of curiousity - combined with a sense of healthy scepticism.

Ive always had a problem with taking photos on mobiles. I would definitely stick with a digital camera simply for the options and settings. Lugging it around would be a hassle.

Dave I would definitely recommend your readers to get a moleskine. I have my own its great.
