Stockport Express sports editor wins darts tournament

Stockport Express sports editor Simon Smedley won the pro-am darts tournament at the Lakeside World Professional Darts championships last week.

Smedley was paired with former world champion Tony David or the tournament last Thursday.

“We got a bye into the quarter-finals, then beat Andy Boulton and his partner, Steve West and his partner [Vassos Alexander from Radio 5 Live] before beating Dutchman Remco van Eijden and his partner three legs to one in the final,” Smedley later told his own paper.

Simon won £100 worth of Coral betting vouchers and a new set of darts.
