Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins has praised the paper for letting him write a highly critical column about the paper’s use of “advertorial”.
Jenkins was incensed in March after the paper ran a supplement on housing, paid for by the Housing Market Renewal Partnerships but labelled as a product produced by Guardian Professional, Guardian News and Media’s commercial division.
He said it was to credit of editor Alan Rusbridger (who, said Jenkins, “went green” when told about the piece) that the column ran unchanged and said it was “doubtful” that such a critical column would have been allowed at Jenkins’ former paper The Times.
