The former RUC chief constable has apologised for flaws in the Omagh bombing inquiry, after being doorstepped by a Channel 4 reporter.

Sir Ronnie Flanagan last night “absolutely” and “publicly” apologised to the victims and bereaved where he was doorstepped by journalist Andy Davies, coming out of the offices of English lawyer Victor Barker, whose son was killed in the August 1998 Real IRA attack.

The Irish Times reported that Channel 4’s Davies persisted with questioning after Flanagan initially refused to say anything. The comments were Flanagan’s were his first since Sean Hoey had been acquitted of the bombing in December last year.
