The Guardian helpfully counted up the number of words written on the US presidential election in UK newspapers last week (to Friday). The scores are: The Guardian, 20,864; The Times, 14,881; The Independent, 14,622; The Telegraph, 14,050; the Daily Mail, 7,132;The Daily Mirror, 3,769 and The Sun, 930.
The huge UK media interest in the US presidential election contrasts with the London mayoral race which has so far failed to spark major coverage, beyond the pages of the Evening Standard - as Peter Preston recently pointed out.
