GMG chief executive Carolyn McCall has defended the group’s decision to team up with private equity group Apax for the purchase of Emap’s B2B titles.
In an interview with the Telegraph, McCall says: “I wouldn’t want to get into an inconsistent position with the Guardian [which has printed anti-private equity comment pieces in the past]. However I don’t think what we’re doing is inconsistent. Private equity exists - it is completely legal.”
The Guardian celebrated a week of award wins and nominations with a page 2 piece on Saturday. The title won three prizes at the British Press Awards, three Webby nominations, two Sony radio award nominations, and McCall won businesswoman of the year at the Veuve Clicquot awards.
