CNN in $1.3bn legal case over China ‘goon’ remark

Broadcasting giant CNN is facing a $1.3bn lawsuit over claims it offended China.

The comments at the centre of the claim came from presenter Jack Cafferty, who said: “They’re basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they have been for the last 50 years.”

CNN has responded by saying that Cafferty was expressing an opinion about the Beijing government and its tightly controlled media. The rolling news network is also being sued by 14 Chinese lawyers over the comments.
