Magazine editors come out in defence of airbrushing

Esquire editor Jeremy Langmead has defended the magazine industry’s use of digital manipulation of models’ photos.
In a piece in the Sunday Times, he says: “Why shouldn’t you look better? If you have the technology, it makes sense.
“If you don’t like retouching you should also be against make-up. And if you want to know what real people look like, you can look out of the window.”
Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman agrees. “We are not in the business of portraying reality all the time. People buy magazines like Vogue in order to look at a kind of perfection.”
