ITV has responded to claims that it is using a legal loophole to avoid taking full responsibility for a series of compliance issues.
As Press Gazette reported last week, the way ITV is split into individual licences has meant that sanctions cannot be levied against the company as a whole. Ofcom is pushing for a change in the law to shift responsibility away from individual licences and up towards corporate level.
But an ITV source tells the Observer: “It is extraordinary that Ofcom has gone out of its way to position this situation as one of ITV’s making, when it is their regulatory framework that is at fault.”
