A couple who were rescued from a diving expedition on the Great Barrier Reef have been criticised for cashing in on their ordeal by selling their story to the Sunday Mirror.

British diver Richard Neely and his American partner, Allyson Dalton, hired a celebrity agent after their rescue at the weekend – and are reported to have been approached about writing a book and making a film.

A Queensland government official has argued that the rescue operation had been expensive and “a contribution back wouldn’t go astray. It would be a very welcome gesture.”
