One of France’s best-loved TV newsreaders, Patrick Poivre d’Arvor, is stepping down this summer after 21 years at the helm of the flagship evening news programme on commercial TV giant TF1.
According to the Independent, the French president Nicolas Sarkozy is said to have lobbied the TF1 owner, billionaire concrete manufacturer Martin Bouygues, for rising female star Laurence Ferrari to take his place.
