News of the World apologises after printing McCann diaries

The News of the World has apologised and made a donation towards the search for Madeleine McCann after publishing an extract from Kate McCann’s diaries without permission.

The paper said yesterday that it believe it had Kate McCann’s permission to publish the diaries. It said yesterday: “It is now clear that our belief was misplaced.”
