The Daily Express attacks rival title the Daily Mail today for its “hypocrisy” on the issue of plastic bags.

The Mail launched a campaign against disposable plastic bags earlier this year, which has been nominated for a Press Gazette award.

The Express today complained that Mail parent company DMGT owns a firm which produces plastic bags - the High-Speed Bagging Company - and pointed out that the Mail on Sunday and Mail titles both regularly use plastic bags wrappers.

The article appears under the fictional “house” byline of Brendan Abbot , a character who generally appears as the author of any anti-Daily Mail stories which appears in the Express.

“Abbot” reports postmaster Steve Denham, from West Sussex, saying: “It’s two faced. At least with the plastic bags from supermarkets, they do sometimes get reused.”
