Fire at Guardian’s new HQ

Four fire engines were called to a roof top fire at Kings Place in London today, the future home of Guardian News and Media.

An emergency call was made at 12.29 to London fire brigade alerting them to the fact that the roof of the seven-storey building in York Way, behind Kings Cross train station, was on fire, and twenty fire officers battled to put out the flames.

The brand new Kings Place on the Regent’s Canal, is a media headquarters, a commercial office block and home to two art galleries.

Staff occupying Kings Place were evacuated and at 2 pm today a spokesperson for Kings Place said that the fire wasn’t serious and they were anticipating a 45-minute wait before staff would be allowed back in and before business would be back to normal.

Guardian staff are set to move into the building in stages over the coming months.
