Journalists at The Financial Times have voted to hold a ballot on strike action.

The vote is in response to plans to cut 80 jobs, including 20 journalists.

Members of the National Union of Journalists organised the vote in protest at threatened compulsory redundancies.

Staff will now be balloted on whether they want industrial action in the next three weeks.

Press Gazette revealed this month The Financial Tims is cutting its sports coverage and pagination in a cost-cutting exercise.

Last month, a protest meeting at the staff canteen was addressed by Tony Benn, the former Labour minister and honorary NUJ member.
