Missing word causes red faces at The Guardian

The Guardian apologised today after omitting one word from a headline – and, in doing so, totally misrepresenting a minister’s views.
The letter from Caroline Flint, minister for Europe, was headlined: “EU plans do put Nato in jeopardy”.
In fact, Flint’s letter argued the EU was not putting Nato in jeopardy. “Nato remains the cornerstone of European defence and European defence policy is for EU member states alone,” she wrote.
The Guardian’s correction, published today, said: “The headline on a letter from the minister for Europe, Caroline Flint, yesterday (page 33) should have read: EU plans do not put Nato in jeopardy. The “not” was missing.”
