Sir Ray Tindle has continued his bullish approach to regional newspapers by buying four titles in the View From series of Devon weeklies, Holdthefrontpage reports.
The View From group has been built up by Philip Evans over the last five years after he left the Tindle-owned Pulman’s Weekly News. Sir Ray has bought the titles covering Axminster, Seaton, Honiton and Crewkerne which employ 20 people.
In January, Sir Ray convened a special meeting of staff and used Churchillian rhetoric to urge them to overcome the current economic difficulties facing the regional press.
In August 2007, Tindle Newspapers paid £18.75m for 27 London weeklies owned by Trinity Mirror.
