Culture secretary Andy Burnham has added his support to the idea of public-private partnerships between the BBC and local newspapers.
Speaking to the Times, Burnham said the corporation could provide sound and images to local newspaper websites, which in return would provide local information to the BBC.
“All of them could work together providing a service under the trusted banner of the local paper,” he said. “The BBC should become an enabling force in the media world.”
Last week, in an interview with the Scarborough Evening News, the culture secretary voiced concern about the effect council-owned newspapers were having on established titles.
