Berlusconi launches attack on Repubblica newspaper

Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has accused La Repubblica newspaper of defamation after it challenged him to explain his relationship with an 18-year-old girl.

Berlusconi’s office said it would not reply to 10 questions posed by the left-leaning daily, accusing the title of exploiting “exclusively private matters for political ends”.
