Express Newspapers now seeks to cut 52-57 journalists

Express Newspapers has lowered the number staff it wants to make redundant from 90 to 75 - a move which would reduce the statutory consultation period from 90 days to one month.

According to The Guardian, which quotes a letter sent from editorial director Paul Ashford to the NUJ, this means the number of journalists to go will be between 52 and 57.

Express Newspapers managers had previously indicated they wanted to cut 70 editorial posts - prompting journalists to pass an NUJ motion in September calling on owner Richard Desmond to sell up.
