Manchester Evening News is Lancs/Great Manc paper of the year

The Manchester Evening News was crowned Newspaper of the Year last night at the first ever 02 Media Awards for Lancashire and Greater Manchester.

The MEN beat off competition from Crains Manchester Business, Bolton News and the Blackpool Gazette to scoop the title. (more…)

Guardian.co.uk to launch iphone app

Publishers have been falling over themselves to launch iphone applications in an attempt to gain revenue from the ever-expanding mobile market.

Guardian.co.uk is the latest to join the rush, as it announced it is developing an application specially tailored to the iphone. (more…)

Andrew Marr unrepentant about questioning PM’s health

Andrew Marr has refused to apologise for asking Gordon Brown if he took medication during an interview with the Prime Minister for his BBC1 show yesterday morning.

Murdoch’s paid-for content plan goes into ’second phase’

News Corporation has moved into the “second phase” of its plan to charge users for access to content across its newspaper websites, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The paper obtained an internal email sent by News Corp’s digital chief executive, Richard Freudenstein,  reassuring staff that research had been conducted into the proposed change to paid-for content, and the company was proceeding to the next stage of development. (more…)

INM bond repayment deadline pushed back for fifth time

Independent News and Media has extended the standstill agreement with its principal bondholders, it announced on Friday.

A bond of €200m (£185m) was due to be repaid on 25 September, but the deadline has been pushed back to 30 October. The original deadline was May 18, making this the fifth extension in as many months. (more…)
