The Oldie, Richard Ingrams’ “antidote to youth culture”, has embraced modernity by launching an app and digital edition.

The magazine is marking its 20th birthday with a new app for iPhone and iPad, available on a monthly (£3.99) or annual (£34.99) subscription, and a digital edition both available via exacteditions.com.

Daryl Rayner, managing director of Exact Editions, said: “It is a delight to be part of such a historic step for The Oldie.

“It really is a British institution and I think lovers of its wry and eccentric articles will be thrilled to be able to read it on an iPad and iPhone.

“Subscribers can search and read a year’s back issues and enjoy hours of Oldie amusement.”

Richard Ingrams, editor of The Oldie (a self-confessed ‘digital denier’ who does not own a computer or mobile-phone), said: “The Oldie is always ahead of the game on any new technology. Our fax machine is the busiest in London.”

The New York Times has also increased its weekday cover price, from $2 to $2.50. Both titles are currently rapidly adding digital subscribers - with the FT boasting 250,000, and the NYT claiming 324,000. (more…)
